Landlord and shop owners at Ita Amodu, along Oja Oba Road in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State have been counting their losses after a midnight inferno destroyed shops and goods worth millions of naira.
Sobi FM’s correspondents who visited the scene of the fire incident, which started around 12:00am today gathered that about six shops, two story buildings and another building with ten rooms was destroyed before the Men of Fire Service together with Community Peace and Security Initiative was able to put off the fire.
One of the victims, Mr Christopher Obiagwu, a cut and sold cloth seller, who said he was given a call around 12 am that his shop is on fire revealed that the inferno destroyed roll of clothes worth nineteen million naira in his shop.
Another victim who is also the Babaloja of the Ita Amodu Market, Mr Najeem Adeleke said all the goods in his shop were destroyed by the inferno while calling on the Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to cone to their aid.
One of the landlords of the affected house, Mr Raji Rasaq also appealed to well meaning individuals and government to assist them, saying the loss is too much for them to bear.
Some the goods destroyed by the inferno are cotton materials and accessories, car paint, foam and mantras, chair fabrics, soft drinks, refrigerators, and other valuable materials.
