The residents of communities along the Afon- Aboto road till Oyo state boundary in Asa Local Government area of the state has called on government at the State and federal level to expedite action on the abandoned road.
The communities who made the plea during a meeting held with the Comptroller of Federal Ministry of Works, Engr Lasisi in his office, Ilorin, said if the road is completed it would boost the economic growth of the area and the state in general.
The team which was led by the TIC Chairman of Asa Local Government Alh AbudlGaniy Saad Atunebise noted that the road has been under construction for some time and later abandoned for decades which has hindered easy transportation of goods and services of rural dwellers to urban centres.
While pleading on behalf of concern communities, Alh Saadu Atunebise stressed that quick interventions from Government will be a greater help in bringing sustainable development to almost one hundred communities in the axis.
In his reaction, the Controller, Federal Ministry of Works Engr Lasisi R.A described the steps taken by the community stakeholders as a great move which he said will support the office reports on the road and hasten the process to the ministry in Abuja.
According to him “Although the contractor has constructed 10 kilometres out of 28km as approved by Federal Executive Council.
” When I met with him he expressed readiness to complete the remaining work but complained that due to increament in price of materials and the COVID _19 Pandemic the work would have been delivered.
“But l am assuring that very soon there will be solution and the contractor will return to site.
In his remarks, the Asiwaju of Oguntoyinbo Alh Obalowu Atitebi appreciated the kind gesture of Controller and his team for their warm reception, noting that the completion of the road from Odo _ Ode to Odo_ OdO which links Kwara, Oyo and Osun state respectively will spur the unity and Inter State socio economic growth .
