The Kwara State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Ahmed El Imam, has debunk recent news circulating on social media platforms regarding the state’s alleged plan to initiate a forceful vaccination campaign for its citizens.
The commissioner while speaking with Sobi FM in her office this afternoon emphasized the importance of vaccination in safeguarding public health.
Dr. El Imam who acknowledged the concerns raised by citizens in response to the misleading information being spread online, reassured the general public that there were no plans to enforce compulsory vaccination in Kwara State.
She maintained that the state government is committed to providing accurate information and creating an environment where individuals can make informed decisions about their health.
Dr El Imam maintained that vaccines have played a pivotal role in preventing and controlling the spread of numerous infectious diseases throughout history.
“Vaccines have played a pivotal role in preventing and controlling the spread of numerous infectious diseases throughout history.
“From the eradication of smallpox to the significant reduction of polio cases, vaccines have proven to be highly effective in saving lives and improving public health,” she said.
Dr. El Imam emphasized that vaccinations have undergone rigorous testing and are subject to strict regulatory standards before being approved for public use.
“The development and distribution of vaccines involve extensive research, clinical trials, and regulatory processes to ensure their safety and efficacy,” she said.
She further highlighted the success of vaccination programs in Nigeria and worldwide saying vaccines have played a crucial role in curbing the spread of diseases such as measles, yellow fever, hepatitis, and many others.
“By achieving high vaccination coverage, communities can develop herd immunity, protecting even those who cannot be vaccinated due to medical conditions,” she said.
The commissioner urged citizens to rely on accurate and verified information from trusted sources, such as the Ministry of Health and other reputable health organizations, regarding vaccine safety, effectiveness, and distribution plans.
