The Kwara State government, in collaboration with the Society for Family Health and other partners, has urged residents to aid in the fight against malaria by using the free insecticide-treated mosquito nets being distributed throughout the state.

This appeal was made by Dr. John Ocholi, the Director of Technical and Programme at the Society for Family Health, during an appearance on Sobi FM’s flagship programme, Oro Ilu.

Dr. Ocholi emphasized the importance of environmental management in controlling malaria, highlighting the need to remove stagnant water that serves as breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

He also pointed out the necessity of preventing mosquito bites, particularly at night, which led to the government’s initiative to distribute treated nets.

“Furthermore, the government is distributing SPAQ (Sulfadoxine-Pyrimethamine plus Amodiaquine) for children aged zero to five years to prevent malaria,” he said.

Dr. Ocholi urged residents not to sell or buy the distributed treated mosquito nets. He also encouraged reporting of anyone found selling the nets to the Ministry of Health officials.
