No fewer than four hundred indigenes selected across the length and breadth of Kwara State have benefited from the empowerment program of the immediate past representative of Kwara Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe to mark his 63rd birthday anniversary.
Speaking with newsmen at the event held in Ilorin, Senator Oloriegbe said the empowerment was facilitated as part of the year 2023 Capital Projects of the National Directorate of Employment and was significantly supplemented with his private fund to assist the vulnerable in the Ilorin Emirate and beyond to cushion the effects of the fuel subsidy removal.
He stated that it was not a constituency project as it’s being rumoured in some quarters.
The medical doctor turned politician maintained that he is not in any competition with the current Senator of the District, Sen. Saliu Mustapha, rather, he is genuinely synergizing with him and other incumbent public officers in achievable policy aimed at moving Kwara State forward.
He explained that he didn’t need to be in power before he could positively contribute his quota towards the development of the State, adding that the intervention would be sustained as an annual event.
According to him “I’m not doing this program for politics. I’m not doing this because I’m seeking any position, the time of politics has gone. It is just five months into the new administration on board, this is not time for politicking but governance proper.”
He charged all the beneficiaries to use the items judiciously to justify the confidence reposed in them by the donor.
Items distributed were Sowing machine (100), HP Laptop (60),
Motorcycle- 33, Tricycle-3
Freezer-70, Hairdressing-34 and 100
Grinding machine.
