Hon. Mukail Seeks Stakeholders Collaboration in Fight Against Drug Abuse

As parts of it’s efforts in tackling the menace of drug abuse in Kwara State, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Drug Abuse, Prevention, and Control, Hon. Aileru Olamilekan Mukail, has called for collaboration from stakeholders to support the government.

Hon. Mukail made the call when paid a working visit to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Kwara State Command, where he said the visit was aimed at fostering enhanced collaboration between the state government and the NDLEA in their joint efforts to rid the state of drug abuse.

He expressed his deep concern over the rising prevalence of drug abuse among the youth in Kwara State, and he emphasized the need for a collaborative approach involving the state government, law enforcement agencies, educational institutions, community leaders, and other stakeholders to address this pressing issue.

“The scourge of drug abuse is a major challenge facing our society today, and Kwara State is not immune to its devastating effects.

“We cannot afford to tackle this problem in isolation. We must join hands and work together to create a drug-free environment for our youth,” he said.

Hon. Mukail lauded the efforts of the NDLEA in combating drug abuse and acknowledged their significant achievements in intercepting illicit drugs, arresting traffickers, and enlightening the public on the dangers associated with drug abuse.

He thereafter stressed the importance of sharing intelligence, resources, and expertise to strengthen the fight against drug abuse in the state.

In his response, the State Commander
of the NDLEA Kwara State Command, Mr Mohammed Bashir expressed his appreciation for the visit and assured Hon. Aileru of the agency’s commitment to collaborating with the state government.

He emphasized the need for sustained advocacy and public enlightenment campaigns to create awareness about the consequences of drug abuse.

“We are glad to have you visit our command and show his commitment to addressing drug abuse in our state,” Commander Bello said.

“We are fully prepared to provide the necessary support and work hand in hand with the state government to achieve our common goal of a drug-free Kwara State,” he said.

At the end of the meeting both parties agreed to work together on Advocacy and Public Awareness Campaigns, Treatment, Rehabilitation and, Law Enforcement.

In addition to these specific areas of collaboration, the Special Assistant to the Governor and the Management of the NDLEA Kwara State Command also discussed the importance of engaging stakeholders in the fight against drug abuse.

They agreed that stakeholders from all sectors of society, including government, civil society, and the private sector, need to work together to address this problem.
