The Nigeria Custom Area controller Kwara state command Kehinde Ilesanmi, has highlighted the significant role of customs in shaping global trade and cooperation.
Speaking at the commemoration of International Customs Day in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital Ilesanmi underscored the pivotal role that customs plays in facilitating international trade and fostering cooperation among nations.
He stated that the command successfully met its revenue target of 19.6 billion naira in the year 2023, adding that despite the challenges, the customs headquarters had set a formidable revenue target of 32 billion naira for the command, emphasizing their commitment to achieving this ambitious goal.
Ilesanmi emphasized the importance of customs agencies worldwide in ensuring the smooth flow of goods across borders and the enforcement of trade regulations.
“International Customs Day serves as a reminder of the importance of global collaboration in trade operations. With 185 member countries, the WCO serves as a platform for nations to exchange best practices, standardize procedures, and collectively address the challenges of international trade dynamics” he said.
The comptroller reiterated the commitment of the Kwara Customs Command to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and efficiency in carrying out its duties.
Ilesanmi emphasized the importance of collaboration with other customs agencies and international partners to combat cross-border crime and ensure the integrity of trade processes.
He said the day observed annually, serves as a platform to recognize the contributions of customs administrations to the global economy and to promote awareness of customs-related issues.
The event provides an opportunity for customs officials and stakeholders to come together to discuss challenges and opportunities in international trade.
