The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State Council, has called for urgent intervention to enhance the welfare of media practitioners employed by Kwara State-owned media organizations.

In a statement jointly signed by the council chairman Abdullateef ‘Lanre Ahmedand the secretary Comrade Omotayo Ayanda recalled that the union during its Congress on January 30, 2024, held at the Press Centre, Ilorin, addressed the critical issue of the welfare of home media personnel, including Radio Kwara, Kwara Television, and The Herald Newspaper.

The Congress underscored the pivotal role of the media in shaping democratic governance and appealed to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to urgently attend to the concerns raised by the state-owned media professionals.

Recognizing the significance of the media’s role in disseminating information about government policies and programs, the union emphasized the need for a responsive approach to address the welfare concerns.

In a unanimous call for action, the NUJ urged Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, known for his attentive leadership, to prioritize the yearnings and agitations of home media professionals.

The union also stressed the importance of fostering a harmonious relationship between the government and the media within the state for mutual progress.

Acknowledging the symbiotic relationship between the government and media professionals, the NUJ passionately advocated for an enabling environment that supports the growth of the media industry and ensures practitioners can carry out their duties in line with constitutional provisions.

The Congress reiterated the commitment of the NUJ to collaborate with the government, pledging continued partnership to contribute to the development of the state.
