The Kwara State Government has restated its readiness to collaborate with the United Nations (UN) Women on the production of low-cost biogas technology aimed at creating a healthy and conducive environment for women.
The State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon. Abosede Olaitan Buraimoh, made this known when UN Women paid a courtesy visit to her office.
She highlighted the state government’s commitment to promoting gender equality and inclusive governance.
Buraimoh emphasized the importance of the 35% Gender Inclusion Bill signed into law by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in December 2021, which seeks to enhance women’s representation in governance and political processes.
According to her “The government’s dedication to gender equality, inclusive education, and youth empowerment remains strong. Collaborative efforts are essential to advance these agendas,” she said.
The Commissioner expressed optimism about future partnerships and pledged ongoing support for Kwara State’s socioeconomic development.
Earlier, the United Nations Women Country Representative, Mrs. Beatrice Eyong, stressed the need to inform the Commissioner about UN Women’s advocacies on issues and programmes affecting women, such as training on low-cost biogas technology aimed at easing cooking for women.
“Low-cost biogas technology offers significant advantages for our women. With this technology, women can produce their own cooking gas, reducing the need for charcoal, kerosene, or firewood,” said Eyong.
She announced that the biogas programme is set to launch in Kwara next month, with similar initiatives to follow due to the state’s strategic importance to UN Women.
Mrs. Eyong commended the Ministry for the warm reception and promised to uphold the confidence reposed in them.
