Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has appointed Prof. Shaykh-Lukman Alade Jimoh as the substantive Vice Chancellor of Kwara State University (KWASU).

This decision follows the university’s governing council’s screening exercise, where Prof. Shaykh-Lukman piemerged as the top candidate.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, confirmed the appointment in a statement made available to Sobi FM, Monday night.

Prof. Shaykh-Lukman has been serving as the Acting Vice Chancellor and was the Deputy Vice Chancellor from 2020 to 2022.

“Prof. Shaykh-Lukman comes highly recommended with decades of experience as an administrator and scholar,” the statement noted.

At 60, he has received several academic honors, including being the Best Graduating Student of the Department of Religions at the University of Ilorin in 1988 and receiving the University Undergraduate Scholarship Award for 1987/1988.

Prof. Shaykh-Lukman is a Fellow/member of several professional bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Public Advocacy and Management and the Council of Experts for the International Centre on Contemporary Research in Islamic Sciences (UK).

He hails from Igbaja in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

In another development, Governor AbdulRazaq has approved the transition of the Kwara State College of Education in Ilorin into the University of Education.

This move is intended to facilitate the university’s establishment and provide logistical advantages.

The Governor has pledged to continue efforts to transform the state’s two other colleges of education to ensure they are viable in the current educational landscape.

This decision follows the Governor’s recent assent to the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (Establishment) and Kwara State University of Education (Establishment) Bills, thereby officially establishing a teaching hospital and the University of Education.

The signing ceremony took place at the Government House in Ilorin, with key figures in attendance, including House of Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi Salihu, Majority Leader Hon. Oba AbdulKadir Magaji, Clerk of the House AbdulKareem Ahmed, and Abdulrazaq Jiddah, a member of the Committee on the Establishment of Kwara State University of Education and Special Adviser (Special Duties).
