The Magaji Nda of Ilorin, Alhaji Dr. Salihu Woru Muhammed, has described the Supreme Court’s decision as a significant step towards strengthening local governance and ensuring financial independence for local government authorities across Nigeria.
In a statement made available to Sobi FM, the traditional chief praised President Bola Tinubu ND the Attorney General of the Federation Lateef Fagbemi for their diligent handling of the suit emphasizing its significance for democracy.
He called on the President to issue an executive order dissolving all the affected local government councils to pave the way for credible local government elections.
The Mogaji Nda also urged the Federal Government to provide financial loans to all affected local government authorities that had not held elections before the judgement, arguing that this is in the interest of civil servants who might be impacted by the potential stoppage of monthly allocations by the Federal Government.
He also appealed to the governors of the affected states to respect the Supreme Court’s decision and view it as a victory for democracy.
The Mogaji Nda however advised the electorate to be vigilant and elect credible candidates to manage their local governments effectively.
