The Kwara State Government has unveiled a comprehensive list of waste collection companies designated to manage waste disposal across the state capital, Ilorin.
In a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Communications, Ibraheem Abdullateef, emphasized that the state is entering a new era of waste management.
He said the release of the waste collection companies’ list is expected to streamline waste management in Ilorin and enhance the overall cleanliness of the city, as the government continues its campaign for environmental sustainability.
The list, which includes the contact information of the waste companies and the specific areas they cover, is part of the government’s renewed efforts to improve environmental sustainability and waste management in the state.
He said the directive aligns with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s broader vision for a cleaner and more sustainable environment in Kwara State.
“This is a new era of waste management here. It is business unusual with environmental matters.
“Over the month, Kwara State Government has intensified efforts in sensitization and engagement of the citizens. We have been doing that actively on radio and social media.
“The Ministry of Environment, led by Hajia Nafisat Buge, among other new strategies, also held a series of engagements with stakeholders across sectors to solicit their support for the campaign.”
He further warned that the government is prepared to use a carrot-and-stick approach to enforce compliance with environmental laws, warning that lawbreakers who engage in illegal waste dumping will face arrest and prosecution in accordance with the state’s regulations.
“The general public is urged to support the efforts of the government to ensure a safer and cleaner environment in the interest of the state,” Abdullateef added.
