The Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun (FUHSI), played host to its Governing Council members during a three-day visit aimed at inspecting university facilities and engaging with key stakeholders.
The delegation, led by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Wale Sulaiman (CON), included Vice-Chancellor Professor Akeem Olawale Lasisi, Registrar Mr. Kassim Kayode Babamale, and other distinguished council members.
As part of the visit, the Governing Council paid a courtesy visit to the Osun State Government House on Thursday, August 22, 2024, where they were warmly received by the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, on behalf of Governor Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke.
The Deputy Governor commended the federal government for appointing a team of seasoned professionals to lead FUHSI, expressing confidence in their ability to elevate the institution to a leading center of medical training in Nigeria.
“The presence of a renowned academic and world-class Professor of Neurosurgery as the Pro-Chancellor of FUHSI is a testament to the federal government’s commitment to excellence in medical education.
The Osun State Government is committed to supporting FUHSI in its quest to become a premier institution,” the Deputy Governor stated.
In his remarks, Professor Sulaiman expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for assembling a team of distinguished professionals to guide the young institution.
He highlighted the potential of FUHSI to become a leading health sciences university, not just in Nigeria but globally.
“The choice of principal officers for this institution reflects the President’s determination to make FUHSI one of the very best. We are committed to building a solid foundation and making Osun State a major destination for medical tourism,” Professor Sulaiman said.
The delegation also paid courtesy visits to the Palace of His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdulwahab Olukayode Oyedotun Bibiire 1, the Orangun of Ila Kingdom, and Elder Statesman Chief Bisi Akande, a former Governor of Osun State.
Both leaders expressed their support for the university’s mission and urged the Governing Council to strive for excellence.
In a move to address immediate transportation needs, Professor Sulaiman donated two Opel mini-buses to the university to ease mobility for students and staff.
This gesture was part of the Governing Council’s broader commitment to improving the welfare of the university community.
The visit concluded with an inspection of ongoing projects at FUHSI’s permanent site, where the Pro-Chancellor expressed satisfaction with the progress made.
The council members pledged to continue working towards making FUHSI a top-tier institution for health sciences education in Nigeria and beyond.
