Today, we gather in celebration of a truly distinguished individual, Senator Dr. Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe, on the occasion of his 64th birthday.

This day serves as yet another opportunity to reflect on and appreciate a leader who exemplifies dedication to public service, characterized by unwavering trust and extraordinary commitment.

Dr. Oloriegbe’s career has been a testament to his readiness to embrace the call of duty in the realm of public service.

His recent appointment as the State Amirul-Hajj for this year’s pilgrimage exercises is a perfect illustration of his character and dedication.

Initially, many were sceptical about his willingness to accept this role due to the challenges historically associated with it and the demanding nature of the responsibilities it entailed.

Some believed that such a position was beneath him, presuming that it might jeopardize his hard-earned reputation or integrity.

However, Dr. Oloriegbe took a refreshingly different stance, viewing it as a divine call to serve both God and humanity, a commitment he embodied from the moment he accepted the role.

Throughout the pilgrimage, he approached the task with exceptional diligence and tenacity, as if his very life depended on the success of the assignment.

He was omnipresent in overseeing all aspects of the pilgrimage, engaging with various stakeholders, and utilizing his extensive network and resources to ensure a smooth process, overcoming obstacles that many might have deemed insurmountable.

From managing logistics at the camping sites to coordinating vaccination points, and even taking part in airport-related operations, Dr. Oloriegbe emerged as a versatile force.

He transcended the ceremonial expectations of his role, becoming a proactive leader and the prominent face of every project associated with this year’s Hajj.

His efforts were recognizable to all involved, including the pilgrims who availed themselves of Kwara airspace for their journey to Saudi Arabia. To many, he was not just the Amirul-Hajj; he was Amirul-Hajj with a class.

During the pilgrimage, two particularly noteworthy incidents could have potentially derailed the entire exercise.

The first involved the intended pilgrims who were scheduled for an overnight flight that lacked the necessary state approval.

The second incident was even more dramatic—a flight that had already been boarded by passengers, including Oloriegbe himself, was abruptly cancelled due to a technical error.

However, through Dr. Oloriegbe’s exemplary leadership and his ability to rally support from various stakeholders, including the Governor who had appointed him, they managed to transform what seemed like an insurmountable crisis into a successful conclusion.

Beyond his role in the Hajj, Dr Oloriegbe has also set a precedent within the realms of legislative representation in Kwara State.

He has ingeniously redefined what it means to serve the people as a former senator. To this day, he actively facilitates life-changing projects for his constituents as though he were still in office.

His initiatives span a wide array of domains, from essential health interventions to empowerment programs and infrastructural development.

Remarkably, he continues to deliver these projects in abundance despite not holding a formal position. For instance, tomorrow, two primary health facilities will receive drugs and consumables valued at #20 million, thanks to Senator Oloriegbe’s relentless advocacy and commitment to community welfare.

It is impossible to fully articulate the profound impact that Dr. Oloriegbe has had on human capital development in Kwara Central and beyond. His legacy of service continues to inspire those around him, and we can only offer our prayers and support for his continued strength and commitment to uplifting humanity.

On this significant milestone of his 64th birthday, I extend my heartfelt wishes for fulfilment and success in all his endeavours.
