The Elites Network for Sustainable Development (ENetSuD) has raised concerns over the poor state of infrastructure in Asa Local Government Area (LGA) of Kwara State, despite receiving ₦11.8 billion in income between 2020 and 2023.
According to a report released by ENetSuD on Sunday, January 5, 2025, Asa LGA received ₦2.3 billion in 2020, ₦2.4 billion in 2021, ₦3.1 billion in 2022, and ₦3.9 billion in 2023, amounting to a total of ₦11,806,305,752 within four years.
The research revealed that despite these significant allocations, Asa communities are plagued by a lack of basic amenities.
The findings show that 109 communities lack access to potable water, 259 have no electrification facilities, 176 have no primary schools, and 383 are without secondary schools.
Additionally, 369 communities lack primary health centers, 131 have no GSM network, and 411 are in dire need of road construction.
Furthermore, 430 farming communities require agricultural mechanization support and training, while artisans in the same number of communities are in need of empowerment.

ENetSuD’s analysis also classified Asa as a “bankrupt” LGA, noting that it received ₦2.28 billion in financial support from solvent LGAs in Kwara State to remain operational.
The organization called for a thorough investigation into the utilization of funds by successive administrations in the LGA, emphasizing the need for accountability and transparency to address the prevailing infrastructural deficits.
