The Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) has commended the Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, for his decision to honor the late Honourable Justice Saidu Kawu, CON, by naming a proposed courthouse in Ilorin after him.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the National President of IEDPU, Alhaji Abdulmumini Ayo Abdulmalik, described the governor’s decision as a fitting tribute to one of Kwara State’s most distinguished legal figures.
According to a statement signed by the Union’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Nurudeen Ibrahim, the IEDPU expressed deep appreciation to Governor AbdulRazaq for recognizing the contributions of Justice Kawu to the development of the state’s judiciary.
Alhaji Abdulmalik recalled Justice Kawu’s remarkable contributions to the Kwara State judiciary, highlighting his role as the pioneer Chief Judge of Kwara State and later a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
“Justice Kawu was not only among the first generation of lawyers produced by Kwara State, but he also served creditably at the highest levels of the judiciary,” he said.
The IEDPU president further noted that the late jurist was widely respected for his calm and thoughtful demeanor during court proceedings and played a significant role in shaping the legal system of Kwara State.
Alhaji Abdulmalik expressed confidence that Governor AbdulRazaq’s recognition of past heroes would inspire more citizens to demonstrate patriotism and dedication to public service, as exemplified by Justice Kawu.
He also prayed for a peaceful and successful tenure for the governor.
