As part of its efforts at increasing public awareness about the operations of the National Health Insurance Authority, the National Orientation Agency and National Health Insurance Authority in Kwara state have concluded plans to embark on an holistic awareness and sensitization programme on the various health benefits available to all and sundry in the scheme.

The Public Relations Officer National Orientation Agency, Kwara Raphael Adeyemi in a statement on Monday said this was agreed during a courtesy visit to the NOA, Kwara State Directorate by the NHIS General Manager /Zonal Coordinator of Kwara, Kogi and Niger States, Mr Adelaja Abereoran and the newly appointed State coordinator.

Abereoran appreciated the NOA for its support of the scheme through prompt feedback and collaboration adding that the NOA has been doing a great job over the years, hence the readiness of the Agency to strengthen the partnership.

Mr Abereoran noted that the partnership with NOA is indeed an effective strategy in reaching out to many Nigerians due to its strategic location in all the Local Government Areas and thereafter expressed the readiness of NHIS to inform the general populace of their newly introduced programmes such as Basic Health Care Provision Fund and GIFSHIP.

Abereoran emphasized that in other to cater for retirees, Corp members, constituents of political office holders and other Nigerians in providing Basic Health Care, the Federal government has introduced various opportunities in through health insurance as opposed to out of pocket expenses for medical conditions and

The NHIS General Manager decried a situation where enrollees in the scheme do not receive the best of services from HMOs or health care centers yet keep quiet, this he said would not help improve the system.

He therefore charged enrollees in the health insurance to always demand for good services which the government already provided and paid for and report infractions through written report to the NHIS for proper resolution.

In his remarks, the State Director NOA, Mr. Olusegun Adeyemi appreciated the leadership of the NHIS in North – Central and in Kwara for extending a good hand of fellowship to the NOA in the state, a partnership which he described has produced results for Kwarans and resident of the state as far as health insurance scheme is concerned.

Adeyemi pledged the support of the appratus of the NOA to the success of the new NHIA Act and mentioned that the partnership between the NOA and NHIS is commendable.He expressed confidence in the leadership of the NHIS both at the zonal and state level to effect the much needed improvement in the health insurance scheme in the interest of all and sundry.
