A Former Minister of sports and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Kwara Central senatorial district in 2023 general elections Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi has cautioned against politicization of people’s tragedy.
Abdullahi made this known while speaking with newsmen on the sideline of his visit to the scene of the recent fire disaster at Alanamu Market in Ilorin, where he commiserated with the Balogun of Alanamu, Dr Usman Abubakar Jos and the entire people of the community over the sad event.
The inferno which was said to have occurred at midnight, destroyed many shops and property worth millions of Naira while it lasted.
Abdullahi who said donating to victims of any tragedy should be genuinely done for the love of the residents of that community rather than to score cheap political goals.
He said since the Alanamu incidence, politicians that were never seen in the area before now have been falling over themselves to prove that they are generous people.
He noted that during COVID 19 outbreak ,rainstorm ,flood in the community among other incidence happened, but the overnight generous persons where never there for the people.
Abdullahi however noted that it is unfortunate that some persons have now decided to play politics with peoples tragedy, saying there is time for politics and time to share in people’s grief.
Mallam Bollaji Abdulahi also described the death of an elderly Couple during the fire incident as a monumental tragedy even as he commiserated with the family of the deceased.
Talking on insecurity the former Youth and Sports minister said the APC government has taken the country to the lowest that’s unimaginable, saying the party has failed I’m it’s major campaign promise in 2015.
He said the party should be ashamed that it’s even having it in mind to contest in the 2023 general elections, adding he does not think anyone will want to vote the party to continue the current woes facing the country at the end of the tenure of the present administration.
A total of five million naira was donated as relief to the family of the deceased, persons whose businesses were affected in the fire incident and for community development.
