The Kwara State House of Assembly has extended the tenure of the Acting Auditor General of the State, Fatai Adeyemi-Tiamiyu for a period of six months.
The tenure extension was sequel to a Message from the Governor titled “
Legislative Approval for a Six Month Tenure Extension of Acting Auditor General of State”addressed to the Speaker honourable Yakubu Danladi Salihu and read before his colleagues at the plenary today.
Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq noted that the tenure of Acting Auditor General elapsed on 28 July, 2022 as the case of appointing substantive Auditor General is still a subject of litigation
The Governor explained that the tenure extension became imperative as the Acting Auditor General is in the process of state Auditing Financial Statement of the state and requires him to handle auditing to completion
The Speaker, Hon. Danladi-Salihu Stherefore directed Clerk of the House to communicate the notice of the six months tenure extension of the state Acting Auditor General to the Governor.
In another development, two petitions titled “Letter of redress” written by one Ajayi Olufunke Rachel of Odo-Efo Area given a compulsory retirement at the state Civil Service over authorized adoption of a minor and the “Land Reallocation for establishment of Filling Station and Gas Plant” along Asa Adam Egbejila road were today laid before the House.
The Speaker, referred the two petitions to House Committees Ethics Privileges and Housing for further legislative action and report back to the House in due course.
In the meantime residents of the state have been cautioned against destruction of public utilities.
This was part of the resolutions of the House after considering a Motion on Notice tilted” Need For Kwarans to imbibe the Culture of Protecting Public Utilities Within and Outside their Domains moved by member representing Afon Constituency Hon Wahab Opakunle.
Opakunle observed that such public utilities and amenities are financed by the government using tax payers money accruing from monthly allocations from Federation Account, Internally Generated Revenue, loans, grants and other sources
Other lawmakers in their contributions expressed displeasure that some neighborhoods who are beneficiaries of the projects have turned the projects for trading and urged them to desist from such to save from sanctions
Reading the resolutions of the House, the Speaker, called on the Governor to direct Ministry of Communications to embark on sensitization on the need for attitudinal change Public Facilities put in place to serve the people
Also during today’s plenary, Lawmaker representing Okuta-Yashikira Constituency, drew the attention of the House to the collapsed Chikanda-Miki of Benin Republic bridge for government intervention.
