As part of the official efforts to tackle corruption, a Group of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) CDS group in Ondo West of Ondo State, On Wednesday, embarked on a rally to campaign against fraudulent activities, saying money laundering, and cybercrime are not lawful.
The rally organized by the group supervisors, Iwamidu Eniola Jude and Ajetunmobi Nicholas Imoleayo, the financial secretary, Ogunmola Ireti Excel, and the secretary, Adam Aondofa was to create general awarenessess about the unlawful fraudulent activities.
Iwamidu laments the rate at which the older generation of this nation has chosen the same path they have been travelling while the younger generation has chosen a different route.
In addition, he claimed that the EFCC was a product of necessity because Nigeria needed to be free of corruption since the societal monster had gotten so entrenched in every aspect of society.
Ajetunmobi also added that the rally was organized to draw the attention of the people, specifically the youths to how to abstain from fraudulent activities and other unlawful acts.
He noted that the job of the EFCC CDS is to preach the mission statement of the EFCC to the public which is to curb the menace of corruption that constitutes the clog in the wheel of progress, protect national and foreign investments in the country, imbibe the spirit of hard work in the citizenry and discourage ill-gotten wealth, identified illegally acquired wealth and confiscate it; build an upright workforce in both public and private sectors in the economy and contribute to the global war against financial crimes and terrorism financing”(EFCC, 2011).
“To rid Nigeria of economic and financial crimes and to effectively coordinate the domestic effort of the global fight against money laundry and terrorist financing” (EFCC, 2012).
According to him, the rally covered Agric junction in harmony estate which served as a meeting point for partakers of the rally then they move on to the limestone filling station and then matched down to the secretariat. He added that banners and placards were deployed in the rally.
He concluded by asking every member of society to refrain from illegal behaviour, especially fraudulent behaviour, and said that the first step in loving someone else is to love oneself.
