The Federation of Muslims Women Associations of Nigeria, FOMWAN, has called on government at all levels to put in place a robust architecture to address the issue of insecurity in Nigeria.

Nigerians to take the issue of Community and National security seriously inorder and to be actively involved in finding ways of ensuring security of human lives and property.

This was contained in a communique issued at the end of the 37th Annual National Conference in Porthacourt, the Rivers State from the 8th-11th September 2022.  

This year’s conference under the theme Bridging inter- Generational Gaps for Sustainable Development: Spectrum of opportunities using the Islamic lens, was attended by 600 Muslim Women from across 28 states in Nigeria including FCT Abuja. 

The communique jointly signed by Sanni Rafiah Idowu and Hajia Maimuna Momodu, National Amirah and Public Relations Officer respectively,

FOMWAN urged members to be actively involved in creating awareness on peaceful elections and ensuring election of credible candidates that will entrench good governance that will enhance inclusiveness and the well-being of citizens.

It also persuaded the government and the general populace to shun ethnic and religious bigotry in politics while promoting the culture of tolerance and understanding.

“FOMWAN as a faith- based organization calls on women to participate in politics with fear of Almighty Allah taking cognizance of Islamic Rights without jeopardizing their morality and motherly roles.

“Relevant institutions to put in place regulatory measures on the use of social media in Nigeria.

“Mentorship should be mainstreamed in our individual lives, the Nigerian curriculum at all levels and fast tracked by the Nigerian Education Resource Development Center and other relevant institutions,”.

The conference was attended by the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, The Special Adviser to the Governor of Rivers State on Youth & Sports, Chief Aribitonye Muhammad Okiri. Representing the Executive Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, CON.

The keynote was presented by Professor Abdulrazaq O. Kelani, (FCAI) of the University of Port -Harcourt, Chaired by Alhaji Taiwo Mustapha and attended by Muslim Scholars across the State, Government Functionaries and traditional leaders from the community.
