Society of Obstetric Anaesthetists of Nigeria (SOAN) Kwara State branch have advocated for a holistic implementation of health policies through collaboration of stakeholders in the sector.

Rising from its three-day ninth scientific conference held in Ilorin, the professional group said good political will is required to address challenges confronting the implementation of the policy.

The conference was themed “Achieving maternal safety current trends and the role of Anaesthetists”.

In a communique issued at the end of the conference, the SOAN noted that multidisciplinary team approach to the management of parturient should be established in all institutions.

It urged the government to ensure adequate provision of facilities to cater for pregnant women during antenatal, labour and puerperium.

The communique said participants at the event agreed that maternal safety is the responsibility of every individual in the country.

It added that they also resolved that good road network is essential to reduce delay in transporting mothers in need of health care.

The communique quoted the Chairman of the conference, Prof Benjamin Olusanmi Bolaji, to have emphasized the effect of brain drain in the health sector and the need to prioritize maternal safety.
