The Kwara State Government today commenced the distribution of the sum of N600 million naira grant to empower 30,000 women and petty traders across the sixteen local government areas of the state.

Speaking at the flag- off of the disbursement of the grant , the Acting General Manager Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP), Abdulquawiy Olododo said the programme is a replica of the World Bank programme, Nigeria for Women Project.

He said each of the beneficiaries will receive N20,000 to support their trades.

According to him the disbursement exercise will start with four local government in Kwara Central comprising ofAsa, Ilorin West and Ilorin South, while other local governments will be scheduled for the coming days.

Olododo who dismissed speculations that the selection process was political, said that the list was a product of consultations with relevant stakeholders, including trader’s group, at the beneficiaries locations.

The KWASSIP boss revealed that enumeration is still ongoing to accommodate more people, adding that his office will ensure that the money get to the real beneficiaries and ensure that it’s judiciously used.

In his remarks, the Transaction Implementation Committee (TIC) Chairman for Asa local government area of Kwara state , Alhaji Abduganiy Atebise said the concept is people- focused that will go a long way in reviving several businesses in the state.
