Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq today joined the global community to celebrate teachers, calling them the centrepiece of his administration’s transformative agenda in the education sector and reassuring them of government’s continuous commitment to their welfare

As Kwara State Government today joined the global community to celebrate World Teachers Day today, not less than 61 teachers — drawn from every part of the state and across different stages of education got awards of excellence.

The awards came with varying expensive gifts, which the Governor called a token of appreciation for those who mould the future of the next generation with their sweats, expertise, and patience.

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq in speech appreciated the teachers for their efforts, sacrifices, and commitments.

The Governor again had a no-holds-barred interactive session with teachers, where the latter commended his strides in the sector and urged him to bridge the pay gaps between teachers of junior and secondary schools in the state. 

Similarly, the Academic Staff Union od Secondary Schools ASUSS, has appealed to the state governor Abdulrssahman Abdulrazaq to give autonomy to the state chapter of the union as it has been done in about 27 states.

The union, who alleged that the leadership of the state chapter of Nigeria Union of Teachers through some government officials is feeding the government with distorted information that ASUSS is not registered, said the secondary school teachers in the have written to the appropriate authorities of its withdrawal from NUT since November, 2020.

Speaking during the celebration of the World Teachers Day, the state Chairman of ASUSS, Comrade Aduagba Kayode urged the state government to stop the NUT from deducting check off dues from their salaries.

Also speaking, Comrade Inufele Tajudeen from Offa Local Government noted that the union is not an àti-government as it has  been peddled around by some people, urging the state government to quickly attend to their request.
