The Bayo and Bunmi Babalola Foundation (BBBF), has again awarded scholarships to pupils and students in Omu-Aran, the headquarters of Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The founder of the foundation, Engineer Pastor Sunday Adebayo Babalola while delivering his speech during the event, revealed that 558 pupils and students who benefited from this year’s scholarship were drawn from primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions.

Babalola while charging the beneficiaries to remain studious, hardworking, and God-fearing, added that the foundation has awarded scholarships to 1,853 students since its inception seven years ago from four local government areas in the State.

Speaking on national issues, Babalola said it is lamentable that the World Bank’s latest report shows that Nigeria is among the top 10 International Development Association borrowers.

He said the purpose of taking loans is not accomplished as there is no commensurate infrastructural development on the ground to show for it. He added that, the propensity to pay back is rather imagined than real saying Nigeria must retrace its steps from this type of financial and economic unsustainable model of fiscal management lest the future of our children and generations yet unborn is mortgaged.

Meanwhile, he apealled to the government to honour the agreement it wilfully reached with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) so that the protracted strike embarked upon eight months ago can be called off.
