Accord Party gubernatorial candidate Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi says vote-buying characterized the ongoing elections in several parts of the state, especially around Ayedire, Ile-Ogbo and Osogbo.
Ogunbiyi made the accusations shortly after casting his vow with his wife at Ile-Ogbo Ward 1, Unit 1, Methodist Primary School.He expressed his discontent with the voting pattern, especially in Ward 1, Unit 1 in Aiyedire.
According to him, some political parties were inducing voters with the sum of N3,000 and N4,000 under the surveillance of security personnel.
Ogunbiyi said, “When I arrived at Unit 5 of Ward 1, I saw there was vote buying with some people being offered N3,000 and N4,000 by different political parties.
“I am not buying votes.I am a candidate for Concordia and even if I have money to buy votes I will not do it, because it is the selfless service that we promised this town.
“I witnessed it, there was vote buying in Osogbo, there was vote buying in Ile-Ogbo.Let the whole world know what is going on,” Ogunbiyi said.
He urged the electorate to cast their votes according to their conscience, saying that they should not allow any political party to buy their children’s future.
The gubernatorial candidate said the use of “state boys” for the election was unfortunate and detrimental to good democratic governance.
He urged the electoral referee to quickly address the problem, saying it was critical to the success of the elections.
He praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting the elections peacefully without further violence. NewsSourceCredit: NAN
