The Acting National Project Coordinator, Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi- Arid Landscape (ACReSAL) ACReSAL, project Ayuba Anda Yalaks, has said the project will contribute to Nigeria’s resilience against Climate Change.
He made this known while speaking with newsmen in Ilorin at the sidelines of one day sensitisation workshop organised for stakeholders held on Ilorin the Kwara State capital.
He said the project is meant to assess progress in overall implementation and deepen policy engagement with relevant sectors.
Yalaks noted that the mission would also assess disbursement readiness and deliberate on Fiduciary issues such as, procurement, financial management, contract management as well as Environmental and Social (ESF) aspects, capacity building, workshops, amongst other critical issues.
Earlier in her remarks the Kwara state commissioner for Environment and chairman state steering committee ACReSAL Remilekun Banigbe said ACReSAL project would restore one million hectares of degraded lands in Northern Nigeria which the sate us part of.
She said the for the project it come alive Kwara State government will be investing into farming and irrigation systems including training of farmers on modern farming practices to boost food production in the state.
In his own remarks the state coordinator of ACReSAL Engr. Zubair Oloruntoyin while talking about the gains of the project said it’s essence is to ensure reclamation of degraded lands as a result of climate change.
He said the state office has put in place a multi sectoral measure as highlighted by the world bank and carrying out sensitization of benefiting communities to ensure the project succeed.
