The Community Chest Council (CCC) has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to democratic principles, protection of human rights, and promotion of the rule of law as it celebrated its first anniversary in Oyo State.

Speaking at the anniversary event held in Ibadan, the Chairman of the Council in Oyo State, Dr Oluwasogo Ayodele, declared that the Council would continue to uphold its founding values of integrity, inclusivity, and service, while working towards a brighter future for all residents in the state.

“As the Council marks this significant milestone, we are reminded of the trust you placed in us and our responsibility to serve the people,” Dr Ayodele said. “We will remain dedicated to our core values, working tirelessly to improve lives through social welfare.”

The Community Chest Council is the umbrella body for all registered and organised non-profit-making societies, humanitarian and charity organisations, homes, community-based organisations (CBOs), faith-based organisations (FBOs), and voluntary organisations working on diverse aspects of the social welfare agenda in Oyo State.

Highlighting achievements over the past year, Dr Ayodele noted that the Council had facilitated financial support for some member organisations and collaborated with the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion on a Social Welfare Trust Fund agenda for the state.

“We have also increased our visibility through a radio programme titled CCC Half Hour, established a functional Funds/Food Committee to address material needs of homes and facilities, and initiated monthly capacity-building seminars for our members,” he added.

He explained that the Council had also been zoned for better operational efficiency and inclusivity. “No one will be left behind,” he stated.

Looking ahead, Dr Ayodele said the Council’s second year will focus on strengthening the Social Welfare Trust Fund project, enhancing food and fund sourcing for homes, and deepening the monthly knowledge-sharing seminars.

“We are the voice of the voiceless. Our motto is ‘Passion for Humanity’, and our database currently has over 250 registered organisations,” he revealed.

In a keynote address, Pastor Tunji Agboola, Executive Director of Goodworker Ministry International, warned against the dangers of child labour, stressing that parents must ensure their children receive education from primary to tertiary levels to avoid falling victim to trafficking.

“Education is a child’s right and a necessity for any thriving society. Any form of forced labour robs a child of their future, and it is our collective duty to stop this,” Pastor Agboola said.

He also called on the Oyo State Government to establish a dedicated Social Welfare Trust Fund to address pressing societal issues, especially child labour.

The Oyo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Mrs Toyin Balogun, represented by Mr Oke, a director in the Ministry, lauded the Council for its impactful work over the past year and assured them of continued government support.

Highlights of the anniversary celebration included children’s performances, inauguration of zonal structures, and the joint marking of the 2025 Democracy and Children’s Day celebrations.
