In continuation of its assessment tour of Communities in Kwara State, the Agro-Climatic Resilence Semi-Arid Landscapes team (ACReSAL), has again called for the construction of a drainage system in Share to avert the loss of properties in the Community.
The ACReSAL team also advocated the construction of an earth dam for irrigation purposes in the community.
The Coordinator of the Project in the State, Engr. Oloruntoyin Zubair made the call at Share, Ifelodun Local Government during the team’s assessment tour of the area.
The ACReSAL team was in Share to assess the area for the construction of a drainage system, to avert the loss of life and properties occasioned by gully erosion which has discouraged small scale industries from investing in the community.
Speaking on the extent of degradation caused by erosion in the area, Engr. Zubair stressed the need to design steps and interjection to reduce the sloop of water flow which could wreck more havoc in the community.
He explained that the extent of the proposed irrigation coupled with the financial muzzle required will determine the need for the earth dam, adding that the community is blessed with enough farm land, water and land resources which could generate more economic values for the state.
Zubair assured the people of the area that all measures would be put in place for tackling the situation at hand.
Also speaking, a Youth Leader in the Community, Mr. Ahmed Oloja, who was in the assessment tour with the team, said the gully erosion has caused more harm than good to the development of Share community.
According to him, small scale industries have all left due to the gully erosion, which has debarred them from enjoying major social amenities in the community.
Oloja, therefore, pleaded with the state government and the agency to come to their aid for prompt intervention to curb further havoc in the community.
