A fire outbreak at Ita-Amodu, Ilọrin West Local Government Area of Kwara State has destroyed property worth millions of naira.
The fire incident, which occurred at Ile Oba-Ologun, gutted a building of about two flats and six rooms, it was gathered.
Speaking on the incident on Saturday, spokesman of the state fire service, Hakeem Adekunle, attributed the cause to a power surge that occurred “around 5:00 pm on Friday”.
He said firefighters arrived at the location and initiated operations to suppress the flames to prevent the fire from spreading further.
“Six rooms were affected in the building with property estimated at over N27.8 million destroyed with N43.3 million saved.
“The firemen were able to minimize the damage to save other flats in the building including many tangible properties,” he added.
The Director of Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, urged the citizens to always cultivate the habit of switching off their electrical appliances even before bedtime.
He explained that “it would help them to prevent the chances of fire outbreaks in their various homes, and also help them to drastically reduce it.”
