The Hydro Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing ecological and environmental challenges in Kwara and other states under its jurisdiction.

The Managing Director, Abubakar Yelwa, spoke exclusively to SOBI FM on the sidelines of COP 28 in Dubai today, where he outlined the agency’s objectives and expectations from the international community after a side event of the agency held at the Nigerian Pavillion.

He said the agency’s focus on securing international support underscores its dedication to addressing ecological issues and contributing to sustainable development in the covered communities.

“We are here to introduce HYPPADEC to the international community to explore financial interventions for the various challenges of ecology facing communities covered by HYPPADEC,” stated MD Abubakar Yelwa.

He emphasized the significance of attending COP 28, expressing optimism about the positive outcomes stemming from engagements with international organizations.
Yelwa highlighted the agency’s intention to leverage global support to enhance its interventions.

“This event is a welcome development, and our efforts will yield results based on the number of international organizations we have been able to meet with,” he affirmed.
Looking ahead, Yelwa conveyed the agency’s commitment to internal reflection, stating, “When we go back home, we will look at our structure to see how we can improve on what we are doing.”

He expressed hope that the financial interventions sought would significantly benefit the 1900 communities under HYPPADEC’s purview.
