The Igbomina Youth Assembly has commended the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his strategic of Kwarans into key positions of authority, particularly citing the leadership at the College of Nursing Sciences, Oke-Ode, as a prime example.
Addressing journalists on Friday at the Igbomina house, Ganmo Ifelodun LGA the President of the Assembly, Engr. Jimoh Rasheed Temitope, praised the governor for his continuous support towards the development of youth and the empowerment of local communities in Kwara State.
He highlighted the positive impact that the siting of the College of Nursing Sciences has had on the Oke-Ode community and the entire Igbomina Land.
“We appreciate the Kwara State government for considering Oke-Ode, one of the prominent communities in Igbomina Land, as a suitable location for the College of Nursing Sciences. This has significantly spurred development in the area, and for this, we are deeply grateful,” said Temitope.
The youth leader further lauded the appointment of Mr. Quadri Olanrewaju Lamidi as the Provost of the College, describing his tenure since October 2022 as transformative.
According to him, Lamidi’s leadership has brought about remarkable innovations and developmental strides that have benefitted both the college and the host community.
Among the achievements of the Provost mentioned during the press briefing are the commencement of computer-based testing for student examinations, the establishment of new schools of Midwifery and Public Health Nursing, and the procurement of a coaster bus to facilitate students’ clinical postings.
Additional milestones include the installation of solar power facilities, the completion of several infrastructural projects, and successful accreditation exercises with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria and the National Board for Technical Education.
Temitope also noted that the Provost has made significant contributions to student welfare and extracurricular activities, including the construction of a football field and the refurbishment of student hostels at the Kwara State Specialist Hospital, Oke-Ode.
Reflecting on the youth group’s disappointment over the loss of the bid to host the Kwara State University of Education in Igbomina Land, Temitope emphasized the importance of protecting and supporting existing institutions.
He urged Governor AbdulRazaq to continue backing the leadership of the College of Nursing Sciences to ensure the sustainability of the ongoing developments.
The Igbomina Youth Assembly also called on the staff of the College to cooperate with the Provost to maintain peace and achieve educational excellence.
“Our profound gratitude goes to His Excellency for his untiring efforts and dogged commitment to the development of our dear State of Harmony—Kwara,” Temitope concluded.
The event was attended by various youth groups and stakeholders from across Igbomina Land, who echoed the sentiments of the Assembly and expressed optimism for the continued growth of the College of Nursing Sciences, Oke-Ode.
