The Governor of Kwara State mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has commended the youth in the state for maintaining peace during the recent national protests, assuring them that his administration will continue to prioritize initiatives that offer them a brighter future.
Speaking at an event in Ilorin to mark International Youth Day, the Governor, represented by the Commissioner for Environment and Forestry, Nafisat Buge, praised Kwara youths for consistently choosing peace over chaos and hope over despair in response to various national challenges.
“I am particularly proud of how you all chose peace over chaos and hope over despair in response to some national events.
“Your response has become a national reference in how young people handle sensitive issues,” he said
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment, emphasizing the importance of ongoing programmes and projects aimed at giving young people in the state a fair shot at success.
He said the theme for this year’s International Youth Day, ‘From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development,’ aligns with the state government’s focus on leveraging technology, education, and new media to foster sustainable development.
Governor AbdulRazaq highlighted several initiatives under his administration that are geared toward youth empowerment, including the Innovation Hub, Sugar Film Factory, Visual Arts Centre, and the Garment Factory.
He noted that these projects are part of a broader strategy to equip young people with the skills and opportunities needed to thrive in the digital age.
“As we gather here, we have public school students enrolled in our free summer coding and digital literacy classes across the three senatorial districts. The idea is to empower them with the right skill sets and the orientation to thrive in the digital age,” he added.
The Governor urged Nigerian youth to continue embracing peace, shun all forms of vices, and engage in activities that drive them towards their life goals, reiterating the government’s commitment to their welfare and future.
