The Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has approved the sum of Ten thousand naira palliative for every public sector worker in the state, beginning from this month.
Revealing the development in a press briefing this morning at the government house the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Rafiu Ajakaye noted that the staggered work plan will not cover ‘essential workers.
Our Government House Correspondent Toyin Saheed reports that the palliative, which will last until a new minimum wage is introduced to enable workers cope with the economic shocks created by the subsidy removal.
The Governor endorsed the immediate cash-backing of 2019 and 2020 promotion for Teaching Service Commission workers and also approved cash-backing for 2021 promotion exercise of teaching and non-teaching staff of SUBEB and restoration of steps to all of them.
The Governor also okay hundred percent CONMESS for doctors, allowances for nurses and approved the extension of free bus rides for students of tertiary institutions in the state, while setting modalities for distribution of food to poor and most vulnerable households will begin in the next few days.
The Governor has also directed the leadership of the civil service to continue a staggered work schedule and also endorsed the Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP) to activate a N500m worth of conditional support for petty traders and MSMEs in the state.
In another development the state Government says all arrangements have been concluded to put up a committee to interface with marketers on the need to put an end to the arbitrary fixing of prices of foods stuffs in the state.
Addressing the journalists today at the Government House Ilorin, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye revealed that the practice imposes hardship on every household in the state.
The state government however appealed to all the marketers in the state to show empathy and support to the people at this special time.
The Chief Press Secretary also revealed that the government will collaborate with the patriotic market leaders on how to tackle the challenges of the high cost of foods stuff in the state.
