The Kwara State Government has called on Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) to play an active role in ensuring the safety of lives and property on roads across the state.

The State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engr. Qowwiy Olododo, issued this charge while presenting two refurbished operational vehicles and ten new motorcycles to the VIO in Ilorin.

Engr. Olododo stated that the donation is part of the state government’s efforts to improve safety compliance on the roads and enhance the productivity of the VIO.

“The state government is investing heavily in road infrastructure, and those who use these roads need to maintain the highest safety standards. It is crucial that officers responsible for ensuring compliance can perform their duties without hindrance,” he said.

The commissioner highlighted that many of the nation’s challenges stem from attitudinal behavior and people’s mindsets.

He emphasized that vehicle inspection activities should be accompanied by social responsibility.

He also advised road users to adhere to safety standards to protect themselves and others.

“The state government will continue to provide the enabling environment for VIO to perform effectively,” he assured.

In his remarks, the Chief Vehicle Inspection Officer in the state, Engr. Akinola Adewunmi Dominic, commended the government for its support and noted that the new vehicles would significantly improve their operations.

He urged road users to keep their vehicle papers up to date and to be courteous to officers enforcing the regulations.

“Despite massive enlightenment campaigns, we still find people who are determined not to fulfill their civic duties by renewing their papers. We appeal to them to always do the needful,” Engr. Dominic said.
