As part of its efforts to combat the adverse effects of climate change on its populace, the Kwara State Government has inaugurated the State Inter-Ministerial Committee on Climate Change (KWAICCC).

The commissioner for Environment, mallam Shehu Ndanusa Usman while speaking at the said the move is to foster a safer and more conducive environment by reducing the hazards associated with climate change.

He said the inauguration of the committee is a testament to the state government’s proactive approach to environmental issues

According to him “Given the significant impacts of Climate Change on our people and environment, it is imperative to assemble a committee of policy and decision-makers from relevant ministries, departments, and agencies.

“The committee’s role will be to identify Climate Change impacts and integrate adaptation strategies into the state’s policy and sectoral planning,” he said.

Mallam Ndanusa delineated the responsibilities of the KWAICCC, highlighting its role in establishing a communication channel between the government and community, advising on overcoming barriers to policy implementation, addressing emergent issues related to climate change, and seeking funding opportunities and grants.

He encouraged the newly appointed committee members to embrace their responsibilities as a means to contribute to the development of Kwara State.

The Permanent Secretary, Hajia Afusat Ibrahim, in her remarks, expressed gratitude to the state Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his commitment to the welfare of the state’s residents.

She assured the committee of the government’s full support in the challenging task ahead.
