The Kwara State Government, through the State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES), is organizing a one-day capacity building workshop on meat handling protocols and good hygiene practices for butchers, meat sellers, and abattoir workers across the state’s 16 Local Government Areas.

Mr. Olusoji Oyawoye, the State Project Coordinator (SPC), stated that the event is one of the activities lined up by the L-PRES Project Coordination Office to commemorate the first anniversary of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s second tenure.

He said the capacity-building initiative underscores the Kwara State Government’s commitment to improving public health standards and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

Scheduled for Sunday, May 26, 2024, at Fresh Hotel, along Fate Road in Ilorin, the training will benefit the first batch of 300 participants.

Oyawoye said the initiative is part of the current administration’s efforts to ensure food safety and prevent zoonotic diseases in the state.

He said the event will also feature the distribution of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to 3,000 operators in the livestock value chain across the state.

L-PRES is a World Bank-assisted project under the State Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in partnership with Bolaniks Agro-enterprise.

The project aims to enhance livestock productivity and ensure resilience in the sector through comprehensive support and training programs.
