The Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has said that arrangement has been concluded for a hitch free rally fixed for Tuesday 26th of July, 2022 in protest against the lingering strike action of staff of public universities.

To this end, the organized labour has written the industrial unions, civil society organizations, nongovernmental organizations and students’ groups in the state to mobilize hundreds of their members to partake in the mega rally.

The State NLC Chairman, Comrade Aliyu Issa Ore, said this in a statement issued and made available to Journalists in Ilorin today.

He informed that the planned rally followed a directive from the NLC National Secretariat in Abuja.

He disclosed that the rally was aimed at ensuring an amicable resolution of the disagreement that caused the industrial action between the government and striking varsity workers and in turn get students back to classrooms.

In the statement titled “Request to mobilize 100 members of your union/organization to a National Rally to get our children back to school organized by Nigeria Labour Congress”, the state Chairman urged concerned stakeholders to troop out en masse for the protest rally.

According to Ore, the next week Tuesday rally will take off at Labour House, NLC Secretariat, beside High Court, Ilorin at 7:30am.

The ongoing industrial action of Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and other sister unions had paralysed academic and other activities in public universities for months.

This medium reports that NLC had consequently directed its State Councils nationwide to embark on mega rally in solidarity with its affiliates in education sector and protest against the insensitivity of the government to the Nigerian students and workers in the educational sector.
