The Kwara State People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the lifting of the ban on political activities within the party.
This ban was initially instituted to honor the late former Kwara South Senator, Dr. Rafiu Adebayo Ibrahim (FCIB).
The PDP had imposed a ban on all political activities and ordered its flags to be lowered for 41 days as a mark of respect for the deceased senator, leading to a suspension of political activities since April 17.
In a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, on Monday, the party confirmed that following the successful completion of the 41-day mourning period and the post-mortem prayer organized in honor of the late senator, the suspension on political activities across the state has been lifted.
“Following the successful completion of the post-mortem prayer in honor of Distinguished, the party is pleased to announce the resumption of political activities across the state,” the statement read.
“Local government party chairmen have been directed to inform ward chairmen under their jurisdictions to reopen party offices for full activities and raise the party flags that were lowered during the mourning period.
“Additionally, all local government party chairmen and concerned stakeholders are hereby notified of an expanded Exco meeting scheduled for Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 2 PM.
“The PDP leadership in Kwara is also excited to inform the general public about the launch of its official WhatsApp channel via 08157600938.
“This initiative aims to enhance public interaction with the party as part of the #RescueKwara campaign, promoting wider public participation and engagement.
“The PDP, under the chairmanship of Rt. Hon. Babatunde Mohammed, expressed gratitude to relevant stakeholders, loyalists, party faithful, and all Kwarans for their solidarity during this difficult time,” he said.
The party also assured the general public of its readiness to live up to public expectations of a vibrant opposition in the state.
