A prominent Constitutional Law expert and former Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly Professor Ali Ahmad has called on Kwarans to vote massively for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the upcoming Local Government elections.
He made this appeal while speaking with newsmen in Ilorin in reaction to the release of the local government elections time table scheduled for September 21st 2024.
Prof. Ahmad criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for failing to implement local government autonomy over the past five years, despite constitutional provisions mandating such autonomy.
He urged the electorate to use the forthcoming elections to reject the APC and endorse the PDP, which he believes is committed to accountability and people-oriented governance.
Highlighting alleged irregularities in the last general election, Prof. Ahmad claimed that the APC rigged the results to its advantage.
He noted a growing disenchantment among Kwarans towards the APC due to its unfulfilled promises. The former speaker expressed strong confidence in the PDP’s prospects in the local government polls, underscoring the party’s dedication to transparency.
Prof. Ahmad, recently endorsed as the consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election by his kinsmen in Ilorin South, cited the alleged misappropriation of millions of Naira by unelected local government administrators as a clear example of the APC’s failures.
He reiterated that only the PDP can ensure true accountability and serve the interests of the people.
Through his foundation, Prof. Ahmad has been actively supporting the needy, widows, orphans, and youth entrepreneurs across Kwara State, regardless of their political affiliations.
The Ali Ahmad Foundation, established decades ago, has positively impacted many lives through its various interventions.
The Sallah Support Initiative and other programs planned for the 2024 Eid-ul-Adha celebrations are aimed at supporting PDP stakeholders, leaders, and members statewide. Prof. Ahmad urged Kwarans to demand accountability from their leaders and vote for the PDP to bring about the desired local government autonomy and responsible governance.
Prof. Ahmad expressed his belief that the PDP will secure victory in the upcoming local government elections, emphasizing the party’s regained trust among the people.
