The Vice Chancellor of the Kwara State University, KWASU, Professor Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi SAN has reiterated that the university will continue to leave to its name of community development.
The VC made this known at the palace of the Emir of Ilorin where the Ilorin Emirate anthem was officially unveiled.Professor Akanbi said the institution as a community university took it upon itself to repackage songs that are unifying factors to bring back the old glory and memories of the Ilorin emirate and also create a unique identity that the Ilorin Emirate will be known for.
According to him “Kwara State University is a community university. It is a university for community development and entrepreneurship. One of our mandate is to contribute to the community around us.
“We observe that Ilorin does not have a unifying anthem despite it’s size , so we look at existing folklore , and we decided to rearrange and repackaged the songs , which was approved by the palace,” he explained.
Also speaking the chairman organising committee Professor Moshood Mahmood Jimba said the Ilorin anthem couldn’t have come at a better time, saying it is necessary because it depicts unity and strength of a community.
“The Anthem encompasses the folklore and old glory of Ilorin starting from Sheik Alimi who established ilorin as a centre of Islamic teachings and learning.Asked why the institution took it upon itself to package an anthem for the ilorin emirate he says.”
KWASU is a university of community development and Ilorin is part of the community, so we took upon ourselves to create a unique identity which we all can identify with.
The Emir of Ilorin and chairman of Kwara State Traditional council Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari after unveiling the anthem, prayed for the continuous unity and growth of ilorin , Kwara state and Nigeria as a whole.
