The staff of the Lagos State House of Assembly, under the umbrella of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), on Monday, officially gave a rousing welcome to the new Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Meranda, to her office at the Assembly Complex in Alausa, Ikeja.

Honourable Meranda succeeds the recently umpeached speaker, Mudashir Obasa, while he out of the country for various offences, ranging from high-handedness, misconduct, and in subordination.

The impeachment was carried out with a yes vote of 32 out of 40 members, which is more than the required two-third majority, prescribed in section 92 of the 1999 constitution.

Obasa upon his return from the US still, at a press conference, proclaimed being the speaker until the right procedure is followed.

The Staff who sang sings to praise the new Speaker, pledged their loyalty, thus taking the wind off the sail of Obasa, who has spent close 20 years in the house, representing Agege-1 State constituency, since 2007.
