Muslims have received a call to embrace the concept of Sadaqah Jariyah on behalf of their departed loved ones, as it is believed to bring blessings in the afterlife.
This admonition was made during the 17th annual Alhaji Yahaya Olusola Sanni Memorial Ramadan Public Lecture, held at the Alhaji Yahaya Olusola Sanni Jummat Mosque in Tanke, Ilorin.
Scholars present at the event praised Alhaji Sanni for his instrumental role in promoting Islam in Kwara state and Nigeria at large, particularly in supporting clerics.
Alhaji Abdulkareem Kunle Sanni Bida, the brother of the deceased, in an interview with Sobi FM’s Dare Akogun, extolled his brother’s philanthropic legacy, describing him as a compassionate individual always willing to assist the less privileged in society.
“The deceased is a good brother to me and for the past 18 years of his death there is no day I don’t remember him.
“This mosque was at the foundational level when he died, but because of the love we have for ourselves as brothers and family and following his instructions we ensure this Islamic centre see the light of the day and we are happy to achieve it,” he said.
He highlighted the family’s commitment to preserving his brother’s legacy by actively participating in the running of the Islamic center, aimed at promoting Islamic values in Kwara state and Nigeria.
Prince Alhaji Olawuyi Kolawole Hazeez, a member of the center’s board of trustees, emphasized the significance of Sadaqah in Islam, stressing its benefits for the deceased.
He noted that the Ramadan memorial lecture was instituted to uphold the teachings of Prophet Muhammad, emphasizing the importance of continuous charity, with the family choosing the holy month of Ramadan to amplify its impact.
