The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kwara State command, has destroyed 2 billion naira worth of illicit narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
The Chairman Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brigadier General Buba Marwa, who was represented by Muhammed Sokoto at the event held in ilorin today said the destroyed drugs comprise of 24 thousand six hundred and eleven kilograms of 24 tons of illicit drugs.
He commended the Kwara command for its efforts in riding the country of banned substances and illicit drugs , which he described as a right step in the right direction.
Earlier in his remarks the NDLEA state commander, Alhaji Ibrahim Saidu, in said the destroyed drugs comprised cannabis sativa, cocaine among others, noting that they were all seized during routine raid operations and interdiction duties by officers of the NDLEA.
He added that a total number one thousand eight hundred fouty-eight thousand suspects were arrested in connection with the illicit drugs and prosecuted while 127 were convicted and sentenced to various terms of imprisonments.
Commander Saidu, said the exercise is an indication of the NDLEA determination to rid Kwara State of drugs and its consequence and to also ensure that the state does not appear on the subsequent list of states where drug is most prevalent.
