The Nigerian Drug law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA has promised to intensify their efforts on Drug demand reduction through sustainable sensitization and awareness programs targeting students at all levels of education, religious organizations among others in Kwara state.
The NDLEA Kwara state commander Ibrahim Mohammed Bashir made this known at a press briefing organised as part of activities commemorating the 2024 United Nations Day against Drug Abuse with the theme “THE EVIDENCE IS CLEAR: INVEST IN PREVENTION” which took place at the command’s head office in Ilorin yesterday.
The Commander while reading the progress report of activities of the command between January and June, 2024 disclosed, that the command has recovered exhibits of 495.166 kilograms of Narcotic and psychotropic substances, made arrest of three hundred and sixty suspects and recorded up to 75 convictions of Suspects.
He also hinted on the activities of the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign in collaboration with the Kwara state drug control committee and NYSC had taken the command round the states on different sensitization programs.
On his part the Special Assistant to the Governor the Kwara State, on Drug Abuse, Prevention, and Control, Hon. Aileru Olamilekan Mikail, highlighted some of the policies and programs by the state government in eradicating the menace of drug abuse in the state.
Meanwhile the Chairperson Kwara State Drug Control Committee Pharmacist Olanrewaju Barakat commended the NDLEA for the feat they achieved within the first half of the year.
She also commended the media organization in Kwara state for their constant coverage while promising continued support and collaboration with the NDLEA in waging war against Drug abuse in Kwara state.
