The Nigeria Climate Change Forum (NCCF) is set to hold on January 28 and 29, 2025, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja, with the goal of advancing Nigeria’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and tackling Africa’s sustainability challenges.

The forum will bring together policymakers, innovators, private sector representatives, and other key stakeholders to prioritize the implementation of Nigeria’s NDC commitments and accelerate sustainable development.

Organized as a premier platform for collaboration, the NCCF aims to drive actionable solutions, foster partnerships, and promote innovation to ensure a sustainable future for Nigeria and the African continent.

The event’s theme underscores the need for a unified approach to address climate change effectively.

The forum will feature an impressive lineup of supporting partners, including the Federal Ministry of Environment, Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, Nigerian House of Representatives, Africa Climate Foundation, UNIDO, Africa Energy Council, and the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Foundation.

Key speakers include Balarabe Abbas Lawal, Minister for Environment; Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology; and Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, Minister of Women Affairs.

In a pre-event message, Ms. Sulaiman-Ibrahim emphasized the importance of including women in climate action planning and implementation.

She highlighted initiatives supporting energy transition, green infrastructure, and the use of innovative technologies for sustainable development, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“Women are key stakeholders in the fight against climate change. We must ensure their voices are heard and their unique perspectives incorporated into national climate strategies,” she said.

The forum has also garnered support from notable private sector organizations, including Africa Finance Corporation, Oando Clean Energy, Access Bank, Stanbic IBTC, Chevron, First Bank Group, and NLNG.

Their contributions underscore the importance of private sector involvement in building climate resilience and fostering innovation.

As one of Africa’s largest economies, Nigeria plays a crucial role in shaping the continent’s climate agenda.

The NCCF seeks to bridge gaps between policy and practice, inspire investments in green technology, and promote collaborative partnerships.

The forum will also highlight success stories in sustainable development and provide a platform for stakeholders to share insights on implementing climate solutions.

The Nigeria Climate Change Forum 2025 represents a pivotal moment for Nigeria to reaffirm its commitment to climate action and sustainability, paving the way for a greener, more resilient future for the nation and the continent.
