President Muhammadu Buhari and more than 100 World Leaders gathered at COP27 holding in Sharm El-Sheikh Egypt to work towards implementation of existing climate agreements.

The President represented by the Minister of Environment Barr. Mohammed Abdullahi will deliver Nigeria’s National Statement at COP27 plenary, attend bilaterals and side meetings on Nigeria’s Energy Transition Plan, amongst other engagements.

The world leaders who were welcomed by Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and Secretary General of the UN Antonio Guterres.

The summit kicked off with an opening plenary opened by the President of Egypt President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi which featured a range of other prominent speakers from heads of state to climate leaders who delivered messages on the importance of urgent action to address climate change.

Following the opening plenary, there were three roundtable sessions with world leaders to discuss a range of pertinent climate change issues including on Just Transition, Food Security and Innovative Finance for Climate and Development.

As chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Pan African Great Green Wall, Abdullahi is expected to host a high-level meeting of member states on the GGW alongside the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification and the Pan African Great Green Wall (PAGGW). 

A statement by the ministry’s head of press and public relations unit, Ibrahim Haruna said other ministers mandated to attend include Engr. Sulaiman Adamu (water resources), Dr. Mahmood Abubakar (agriculture), Zainab Ahmed (finance), Engr. Abubakar Aliyu (power), Sadiya Farouq (humanitarian affairs, disaster management and social development) and others.
