The State Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kwara, Alhaji AbdulFattah Beki, has called on Nigerians to desist from spreading fake news and hate speeches that are capable of creating chaos in the polity.
Alhaji Beki made the call while playing host to Kwara Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) Mr Segun Adeyemi, who led the management on a working visit to his office in Ilorin on Tuesday.
He advised Nigerians to join hands, irrespective of their religious, cultural, or traditional beliefs to lift the country up, saying that, “we have no other place that we can call our own.”
He urged Nigerians to ensure that their claims are accurate irrespective of where they find themselves.
“I want to appeal to every Nigerian to always portray the country in a very bright and an environment that is conducive to live in.
“Social media, is awash with loads of information and there are claims and counter-claims, some of which advance existing ethnic and religious narratives, and engender distrust among Nigerians.
“All citizens must ensure that our country, Nigeria is credible by all standards. Let us all remember that we have no other place to call our own,” Beki explained.
Earlier, the state director of NOA, Segun Adeyemi, had assured that the agency would strengthen its working relationship with NAN to provide more publicity to promote government activities.
“We are ready to join hands with you to ensure that government activities are well publicized to members of the public.
“But also want to advise that NAN should continue to use its wide reach of audience worldwide to further educate and enlighten Nigerians on government policies and programmes in partnership with NOA,” he said.
He thanked NAN for supporting the activities of NOA and congratulated Alhaji Beki for his recent promotion as the substantive State Correspondent.
