A Kwara State High Court has resumed the trials of suspects who allegedly robbed and killed scores of people including police officers in Offa, Offa Local Government Area of the state.

The defence counsel, Barrister Mathias Emeribe opened the defence by calling two witnesses who testified in favour of the defendants.

The first witness, one Alhaji Adeniran, informed the court how he communicated through phone with the 4th defendant and the need to subpoena the communication company to show call logs of the two parties as evidence.

The second witness, one Alhaji Bada, a former Local Government chairman testified for all the defendants he filed an enforcement of fundamental human right against the police where the court ruled that the police should charge the defendants to court within 7 days of their arrest if they have anything against them or release them on bail.

Sobi FM’s Judiciary Correspondent, Kayode Adeoti, reports that Bada confronted the police with the ruling and the then head of SARS, Abba Kyary allegedly threatened him with detention claiming he’s not answerable to any court in Nigeria while the matter was adjourned at the instance of the prosecution to 3rd and 4th of November for continuation of trials.

It would be recalled that the robbery incident took place in Offa, on April 5th, 2018, during which more that 30 persons were killed including police officers while several millions of naira were away and the suspects standing trial are Ayoade Akinnibosun, Ibikunl Ogunleye, Adeola Abraham, Azeez Salawu and Niyi Ogundiran.
