The Ondo State House of Assembly has begun the process of removing the deputy governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
Recall that the lawmakers had earlier denied any impeachment move against the deputy governor.
But the lawmaker on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, summoned an emergency plenary as all road leading to the Assembly complex was filled with security agencies.
It was gathered that 23 out of 26 lawmakers have already signed the impeachment notice on the Deputy Governor.
The emergency plenary saw a petition signed by nine lawmakers against the deputy governor.
Majority Leader of the Assembly, Hon Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, moved the motion on the need for the Assembly to abide by Section 188 of the Nigeria Constitution by informing Aiyedatiwa of the ‘gross allegations’ against him.
According to him: “I rise to move a motion of allegation of gross misconduct against the Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa. I hereby move a motion that this House shall write to the Deputy Governor on the allegations against him.”
A PDP lawmaker, Hon Tope Angbulu, representing Akoko Southwest Constituency II seconded the motion.
Speaker Olamide Olajide said: “The motion has been moved and duly seconded according to section 188 that this House should do the needful on allegations of misconduct against Aiyedatiwa.”
To this end, at the plenary session on Wednesday, the directed the Clerk of the House, Mr. Benjamin Jaiyeola, to communicate to Aiyedatiwa the allegations leveled against him.
